I’m almost done with this edit. That doesn’t sound like a huge accomplishment, but I started back in May. (Yes, you read that right). In my defense, this isn’t really one edit–by the time I finish, each page will have been gone over at least 4 times.
I felt for a long time (read: all summer) like I was spinning my wheels without getting anywhere. I’m an instant gratification kind of gal so my motivation was shot all to heck as this edit moved along like a turtle with arthritis.
Then I found my motivation.
Star Trek!
I am now rewarding myself with episodes of Star Trek. (I’m so cool I used to read The Next Generation magazines in band class). I make my editing goal, I get to watch an episode. I think I’ve seen every episode at least twice, some more like ten times.
I know some of you are Next Generation fans. Extra points for anyone who can guess my favorite character or episodes!
I might have to start doing this to get my word count up. First draft is going slooooooow.
I always related to Beverly Crusher. Back then it was because she was classically elegant and smart, what I aspired to be. Now it's the Mom factor. She's still my favorite. No clue who you like.
Deanna's Troy's Mom? She's spunky and sassy. Yeah, there's my vote (even though she's not a primary character).
L.G.–It totally works! I'm all about bribing myself these days. Whatever gets the job done!
Erin–I do love Lwaxana. As a matter of fact, she's in the episode I'm watching tonight. (With my daughter–she's only 4, but she already loves Star Trek. Haha!)
I am guessing that Jean-Luc is your favorite, followed by Data, then Q. (Oh wait, those are my favorites…and Worf is in there somewhere, too.)
Star Trek is a great reward.
Shelley
Shelley–Q is tied with Lwaxana for my favorite non-regular character. And much as I love Picard and Data, neither are #1.
Although Data is my four-year-old's favorite. 🙂
I loved Wesley. lol Long time ago.
Congrats on getting this round of edits almost complete.
I'm gonna guess Picard's archaeoloy-related episodes.
Or the time travel ones.
Good luck finishing your edit!
I LOVE Star Trek!!! Hmmm…favorite character?? Data. Oops, just saw your comments. If not Data, then…um, Wharf! 🙂
You may be moving slow, but you ARE moving, remember that. I'm kinda slow myself so I get it.
Star Trek motivation is a great idea. Hmmmm, maybe I'll do that with Buffy…
HA! That's brilliant. I should try something like that.
Edits take me a long time, too! And that's a great reward, Star Trek. I did that with True Blood all summer long. 🙂
Yes! High Five for Star Trek!! el husband and I just finished watching the entire series of Voyager which, sadly, does not have the same rewatchability as TNG. Picard is my absolute most favorite captain, and Worf has gotta be my favorite character!
I say, if it works, use it. I need to find a reward to motivate me on my editing project. I am smack in the middle of the stalling zone.
Alright, TNG! Yup, it's funny how Picard and Riker can be good creative motivators:)
It is really cute that you read The Next Generation magazines in band class!
Congrats on your accomplishment! To stay motivated, I give myself treats, too. It's such a long journey (or trek–tee-hee!). I feel like we should reward ourselves along the way!
Awesome idea. I'd like to create a better reward system for myself to become more productive. My show of choice would be X files.
Have a great weekend.
Great idea. I do the same with Criminal Minds episodes and my daily writing goal. I love the behavioural analysis stuff, so that drives me forward. It's like visual chocolate, and I can't resist!
