You can look… and you will find it.
You can not look… and you will find it.
That which is yours will surely come to you.
It just might take a really flipping long time.
I love this quote because it reminds me of finding my husband. Neither he or I were looking for a relationship when we stumbled across each other as tour directors on a bus in Alaska. He was carrying a book so I thought he must be smart. And then I found out that even though he wore really goofy shoes, he was also cute and funny. Things just worked out the way they were supposed to.
I’m now applying this attitude to being published. I had it in my head that if I worked hard enough- if I revised enough and sent out enough query letters- I would automatically land my dream agent and get published. Don’t get me wrong- I still think Edison was onto something when he talked about 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration.
But I think that 1% inspiration might be better named as luck or destiny.
So wherever you are in this process, keep plugging away. Write that extra page today, do the extra journaling, start that next revision, and send another query letter.
But know that what’s meant to happen will happen. But only when it’s ready.
And yes, it might take a long time. A really, really, really long time.
A very good attitude to have 🙂 and one I'm adopting too *grin* Although I do have another idea too, which is if (and it's a big if – but then so is getting published) I managed to reach 1-2k of followers I will publish it via Amazon as an e-book..
Eeeeee! I shouldn't have said that! Now it'll happen *gulp* off to hide under a rock, scuse me ;p
Nicole- Hey, I think if you hit 1-2K followers an e-book isn't a bad idea. And there are some indie presses too- lots of options out there now for writers!
Great post, Stephanie! I think we all need a little reminder every now and then. 🙂
'You can not look and it will come to you.' I like that.
I am reminded also of 'If you build it, they will come.'
Keep the faith.
LOVING the attitude!!
Thanks, I really needed this reminder.
Love that quote! And you're right – I think some things are meant to happen. 🙂
It is taking a loooong time for me. But I won't give up. Great post!
An INSANE amount of luck. But you're right, hard work and dedication to the craft will hopefully get us what we want.
Yeah, Lady Luck really has to get behind you for things to happen. The right person to see the right something at the right moment and pitch it to the right other person at the publishing house. But thanks for the pep talk! I am going to have to send out a new batch of queries in the next couple of days, and I'm dragging my feet against the disappointment.
I love that poster — karma's a bitch 🙂
Great post, Stephanie! Although now I'm starting to feel impatient… ah well.
How funny. I was just thinking about the same concept last night –though for some reason I never applied the word destiny. good post.
I'm trying to appreciate the irony that I've gotten myself into a profession where patience is a necessity and I'm one of the least patient people in the world.
You're right on, sista! Keep at it. If I can make you so can you! You have the right attitude and that will help you through the tough times. 🙂
Yes, I believe that everythng happens for a reason, so keep up the fight!
Yep, I'm plugging away 🙂 With my new pen! hehehe
First, I love that poster. Second, excellent post today. I couldn't agree more.
Love the poster/pic. and, as always, I love this post.
I'm all about zen right now…or my brain would implode.
(love your little hubby story 🙂
Love,
Lola
This is a wonderful post – thanks for the reminder. I'm a firm believer in what's meant to happen will happen – but I know we all get a little impatient – but we have to keep that faith.
There's strength in surrender: "Thy will be done."
think we all need a little reminder every now and then
